Arrowhead Game Studios rolled out HELLDIVERS 2 update 7.2.0, titled “Devoid of Liberty,” through the game’s official Steam news channel on October 20, 2026. The post confirms the patch’s name and version number, and the Steam store page for the game now lists a trailer with the same title, so the update was trailed well before players saw it land.
A title that sounds like a warning
The “Devoid of Liberty” name carries the grim, propaganda-flavored tone HELLDIVERS 2 has used for its galactic-war story beats since launch, and it arrives at a pointed moment in the game’s fiction. Prior coverage on this site has tracked how Super Earth has struggled with the Illuminate sectors appearing on the galactic map, and how players have argued the Illuminate faction may already be inside the game despite official word that the threat is contained. A patch title about lost liberty fits that storyline of a government hiding what players can see with their own eyes, though Arrowhead has not said what the update actually contains.
Only the title and the version number are confirmed so far. The announcement does not break down balance changes, weapons or fixes, and the studio has not said whether 7.2.0 extends to PlayStation platforms as well as the Windows build on Steam.
A coordinated content drop
The patch did not arrive alone. Arrowhead had already announced the “Scope of Authority” Premium Warbond for an October 20 launch, and this site covered that Warbond announcement after it surfaced amid delay rumors. Landing 7.2.0 the same day suggests a planned content drop, but the update post itself does not confirm whether the Warbond’s gear is part of the patch or a separate release.
Arrowhead has kept a fast cadence through October, and the “Devoid of Liberty” trailer sits on the HELLDIVERS 2 store page for anyone who wants to read the next chapter of the galactic war into it. The full announcement is published on the game’s official Steam news page.
