The reported “Sentinel” subtitle for The Elder Scrolls VI is the name fans settled on back in August, counting the eight asterisks in an Xbox CEO’s post about the game.
Asha Sharma wrote on August 11 that she had watched a live playthrough of the game, which Bethesda Game Studios has reportedly been showing internally in recent months. “Live playthrough of The Elder Scrolls VI: ******** this morning. The scale and grandeur are incredible. The story is even greater.” she posted on X.
Eight asterisks, eight letters, one city
Sharma blanked the name out with exactly eight asterisks, so comment sections started matching it against eight-letter Elder Scrolls words. Sentinel fit almost at once: it names a coastal city in Hammerfell, the province most players already expected the sixth game to visit. A Sentinel reference also surfaces in Starfield, Bethesda’s space RPG, though no reporting says whether that nod was planned or pure accident.
The report that landed on October 29
The theory found its reporting on October 29: The Elder Scrolls VI will be titled Sentinel and set in Hammerfell, according to Tom Warren’s report at The Verge, citing sources familiar with Bethesda Softworks’ plans. The report says only the official title is expected next month, with other details left for later, and that the announcement may be timed to Skyrim’s 15th anniversary on November 11. Bethesda and Xbox have confirmed nothing.
Hammerfell, the western region of Tamriel that is home to the Redguards, has appeared in The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall, the 1998 PC adventure The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard and The Elder Scrolls Online, but has never anchored its own mainline Elder Scrolls game. The Iliac Bay setting was also where fan speculation pointed long before Sharma’s post.
If the reported window holds, the title reveal would land in the same month as GTA 6, which launches November 19. Skyrim, the last mainline entry in the series, turns 15 on November 11.
