Morse Micro adds Wi-Fi HaLow capability to Edge AI Foundation

The Edge AI Foundation has signed up Wi-Fi HaLow tech provider Morse Micro as a strategic partner.

The Edge AI Foundation serves as the global hub for energy-efficient edge artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. With more than 200,000 developers and practitioners worldwide, it spans tiny machine learning to agentic AI, physical AI and neuromorphic computing.

These technologies are designed to transform AI at the network’s edge and unite industry leaders to drive innovation, solve global challenges, and democratise AI technologies. As this shift accelerates, connectivity is one of the biggest barriers to widespread Edge AI adoption.

Wi-Fi HaLow is seen as providing the connectivity layer for this shift, combining kilometer-scale range and enterprise-grade WPA3 security with the bandwidth to support Edge AI at scale, all at power levels low enough for battery-operated devices.

The designation for certified products incorporating IEEE 802.11ah technology, Wi-Fi HaLow is intended to augment Wi-Fi by operating in spectrum below 1 gigahertz (GHz). Enabling the low-power connectivity necessary for applications including sensor networks and wearables, its range is longer than many other internet of things (IoT) technology options, and its proponents believe it will provide a more robust connection in challenging environments where the ability to penetrate walls or other barriers is an important consideration.

Wi-Fi HaLow is also built to deliver extended battery life, enhanced device density, minimised end-to-end delay, a higher level of security, ease of installation and management, and elevated data throughput in IoT scenarios. Products based on the standard will use narrow channel bandwidths, an increased number of supported devices and new operating modes to accommodate battery-operated devices.

Chip manufacturer Morse Micro’s Wi-Fi HaLow technology is said to be able to connect devices to achieve 10 times the range and cover 100 times the area of traditional Wi-Fi networks, while offering 1,000 times the data rates of traditional low-power wide area network technologies. This advancement is said to be applicable across a range of edge AI and IoT applications, including smart homes, industrial automation and smart cities.

The company recently announced significant funding to develop Wi-Fi HaLow technology, and the partnership with the foundation allows it to connect its technology with a global community of Edge AI developers, industry leaders and researchers.

As a strategic partner, Morse Micro says it will work alongside the foundation’s community to advance Edge AI adoption across smart infrastructure, industrial automation, agriculture and security, where devices are often spread across large sites without an existing network backbone.

“Edge AI is transforming what’s possible at the device level, but intelligence is only as useful as the connectivity supporting it,” said Morse Micro co-founder and CEO of Michael De Nil. “Wi-Fi HaLow keeps intelligent devices connected over greater distances at lower power than conventional Wi-Fi. We’re delighted to join the Edge AI Foundation and work with the community to accelerate real-world adoption of wireless Edge AI.”

Edge AI Foundation executive director Pete Bernard added: “Bringing intelligence to the edge requires more than advances in AI – it requires the connectivity to make those intelligent devices practical at scale.

“Morse Micro brings an important piece of that ecosystem with Wi-Fi HaLow, particularly for applications where range, power efficiency and reliable connectivity are critical. We’re excited to welcome them as a strategic partner and to have their expertise contributing to our global community.”
