S-GAME’s wuxia action RPG Phantom Blade Zero peaked at 833,921 concurrent players on Steam on November 1, days after its launch on PC and PlayStation 5, SteamDB’s player chart shows. The figure puts the game among the biggest PC launches of the year.
Second-biggest 2026 launch on Steam
The peak arrived on the first Sunday after launch and makes Phantom Blade Zero the 14th-highest all-time concurrent player count on Steam, per SteamDB tracking. Among 2026 releases it ranks second, behind only Palworld, which peaked at 961,867 players when it left Early Access in July. SteamDB’s live charts will keep updating the peak and the all-time ranking as other 2026 games launch.
What stands out is the hold. Phantom Blade Zero has stayed above 700,000 concurrent players every day before and since its peak, a level usually associated with multiplayer and live-service games rather than a single-player, story-driven RPG. Because it is a single-player title, the concurrent count is expected to decline as players finish the story, though it has held steady so far. PlayStation 5 player numbers are not public, so the Steam figures cover only the PC audience.
A five-year jump from 2D Rainblood
Phantom Blade Zero is a spiritual successor to the Rainblood series. The earlier Rainblood games were built in 2D; Phantom Blade Zero moved the series to 3D using Unreal Engine 5. Development began in 2022 and the game was announced in 2023.
The Steam store page lists the release date as October 28, 2026, while some coverage dated the launch a day later, a gap most likely caused by regional time zones.
Reception tracks the numbers
Steam reviews sat at 90% positive, a “Very Positive” rating as of November 4. OpenCritic lists a Top Critic Average of 88 for the game, with 95% of critics recommending it, and the Steam store page shows the same 88 metascore.
