Samsung may bring a massive 6000mAh battery to its popular mid-range Galaxy phone

Samsung has played it safe with battery capacities on its devices for years. But we’re already seeing them offer 5000mAh cells in more Galaxy devices, especially in its budget Galaxy offerings. That trend could continue next year and will include the popular Galaxy A range.

According to a new report from GalaxyClub (via GSMArena), Samsung’s Galaxy A38 5G will feature a 6000mAh battery, a significant upgrade from the Galaxy A37’s 5000mAh capacity (20% increase).

Second Galaxy A model with a massive battery

The source details that the Galaxy A38 will feature a 5882mAh rated capacity, which translates to 6000mAh as the advertised typical capacity.

If this materializes, the Galaxy A38 will be the second A model to ship with that cell size, given Samsung has stubbornly stuck with 5000mAh in past generations.

The first Galaxy A model to feature the larger battery was the entry-level Galaxy A07, launched earlier this year. The larger cell gave the device substantially longer running time than its predecessor. With the same capacity, this could give the Galaxy A38 extra hours of screen time, though we don’t know if it will be a major leap, since the processor will still play a vital role in overall endurance.

Bigger battery trend for Samsung in 2027

It’s not only the Galaxy A38 that may get the battery upgrade. But this could extend to other Galaxy series, like the Galaxy A58 and even the Galaxy A28.

The Galaxy A57 features a 5000mAh battery, which puts it behind most Chinese mid-rangers, including Motorola and Nothing. With a larger cell, it would put the A58 in the same league as its rivals.

The Galaxy A57 and A37 already support faster 45W charging, so the Galaxy A38 will likely carry it over. This makes sense, since the larger cell takes longer to charge.

It didn’t mention whether the larger cells use silicon-carbon chemistry, as most Chinese devices do. But since Samsung has used the same lithium-ion cell in the Galaxy A17, the upcoming mid-range will likely share the same battery composition.

Even so, the flagship Galaxy S27 Ultra and S27 Pro were recently certified and will feature larger batteries, but they’ll use the same lithium-ion cell, not the silicon-carbon cell.

A familiar design, but a more powerful chip

Beyond the battery, the Galaxy A38 is reportedly keeping the same cameras and design, though the company could offer it in new colorways. However, it could ship with a faster Exynos processor along with more capable graphics.

Samsung should officially announce the Galaxy A38, along with the Galaxy A58 and A28, in February or March 2026, in line with its hardware cycle. There’s no word on whether the memory crisis will also drive up prices for its mid-range devices.
