New Safety Tech, No More Mild Hybrid

The Discovery Sport’s face is mostly carryover from 2020, which is to say it’s a maturation of the pre-refresh car’s design. The LED daytime running lamps are no longer circular and the rear of the car gets a slight massaging for a more upscale look. Other Discovery hallmarks like the stepped-roof design and the body-colored C-pillar are present and accounted for, and there are touched-up large vertical strakes at each front corner, just like on the 2021 Discovery.

Inside, the changes are a slightly more thorough. The Jaguar-Land Rover group’s new Pivi Pro infotainment system that debuted in the new Jaguar F-Pace and XF has made its way to the Disco Sport and, recently, the 2021 Discovery. The new system can support up to two bluetooth phones at once and promises to be snappier, more intuitive, and constantly up to date thanks to over-the-air updates.

Pivi is also customizable, much like your smartphone, and will show drivers the information they value the most. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now standard across the lineup. The Disco Sport can be had with up to seven USB ports, and there are other optional goodies like a wireless charging pad with a signal booster tucked away in the center console.

For 2021 the Discovery Sport also comes with new safety tech, including a standard 3D surround view camera. Other niceties such as traffic sign recognition, lane keep assist, and a driver monitor are all now available, too.

Regardless of trim, all Discovery Sports are powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four cylinder that makes 246 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque, meaning Land Rover has given up on the slightly more powerful “P290” mild-hybrid version of the same engine, which isn’t available for 2021. Prices for the base Discovery Sport S P250 start at $42,950 and go up from there. You can expect the 2021 Discovery Sport to hit dealerships early next year.
