Tweed is one of those quintessential symbols of the British Isles, particularly Ireland and Scotland, and so the announcement that some particularly choice tweed patterns are coming to the interior of certain Mulliner-customized Bentleys is surprising only in as much as it wasn’t already on the main menu. Four tweed patterns are coming to the Bentayga, Continental GT, and Flying Spur via Mulliner’s Personal Commissioning Guide.
Each is available as door trim. Sadly, tweed is not yet available as a seat material, but rather as a complement to the supple leather in the aforementioned Bentley models. The most striking is Glen Plaid-Tolsta Beach, a bold check-pattern material in earthy colors. Two traditional herringbone tones are available, too: dark charcoal and a sand-colored tan (available with dark and light interiors, respectively). There’s also a rustic-looking green called Cheltenham.
Bentley has offered tweed as an accent before in several special, not-main-menu models—the Mulliner “Sportsman” Bentayga using Peck 62-sourced tweed, the Bacalar (which used it extensively), and even a tweed-look top on the Continental GT Convertible. Given automaker’s recent emphasis on ethical materials (consider, just as an example, Porsche’s vegan RaceTex faux leather or the Polestar 2’s entirely vegan interior), we expect more vehicles to employ such kit in the future.
