It is an amazing accomplishment for TLoU Part 2, no doubt. Incredible game.
You can’t do anything with awards tho, other than count them, just a number. They’re achievements, and it’s amazing to see what games like Uncharted 2 did back in its day with the game awards, The Last of Us, how it forever changed/shifted the perception of games and performances in them (because complete brilliance and perfection was delivered by that cast) in their performances to TW3 taking the crown from The Last of Us. The awards rack up, they can become a mountain so high and deep, gamers are astonished by how many awards are received.
But the experience, that’s what matters, not the awards. Yes, to receive a GOTY as a creator/dev I’m sure means a great deal.l to some. But to know they themselves be it Naughty Dog, Rockstar, Guerrilla Games or Bungie in their past with Halo, knowing you’ve all as a team crafted from just your imagination to completion with all these ideas and moving parts a complete game to gamers, that looks better than you thought possible, and is loved by fans, but that you yourselves as gamers/devs are proud of in itself, that’s gotta be the best feeling, more so than the awards.
If I was a video game dev, my goal and hope would genuinely never be to receive a GOTY. It’s materialistic, and while some might find meaning or purpose behind it, I wouldn’t. My happiness as a creator would be that I continue creating games from a place of love, respect, care and passion for what video games are, not just to me, but to the team and gamers around the world. To never lose sight of that and understand that and move forward in knowing I do what I love, others love it too, and the fans, love what myself and the team do. We do it for ourselves and them, it’s fun for us, and even more gratifying to see and hear and talk with them about how our game effected them or what they loved most about it or what they didn’t like.
GOTY, will never compare to a fans love and appreciation and trust.
