Samsung Rewards program removing Samsung Pay

  • Samsung is no longer going to hand out Samsung Rewards for transactions conducted with Samsung Pay.
  • You’ll still be able to earn rewards through purchases directly from Samsung, but not from anything you buy through Pay.
  • This also means that the various rewards tiers are going away.

Loyal Samsung fans have been able to earn rewards points through Samsung Pay transactions for years. In 2018, the company slashed the number of points you earned from a transaction, but other than that, the program has been active without interruption.

That all ends as soon as 2021 begins. Per Android Police, the Samsung Rewards program for Samsung Pay transactions will end as soon as we enter January 1, 2021.

To be clear, the rewards program itself isn’t going away. Fans will still be able to earn points through transactions at Samsung-based establishments. This would include the Galaxy Store, brick-and-mortar Samsung Experience stores, and Samsung.com. Your purchases through Samsung Pay at all other establishments, though, won’t earn any points.

Unfortunately, this also spells the end of the tiered rewards system. People who made a lot of purchases through Samsung Pay were able to climb up the ranks so that each transaction would earn more rewards. Going forward, everyone will earn the same points for each purchase.

Users who greatly benefitted from this program will likely be upset about this. For everyone else, though, there are lots of great credit card rewards systems that will likely be as good or better than what Samsung offered.
