Social media site Bebo making another comeback again

  • The social networking site Bebo is making yet another comeback in a few weeks.
  • This is a “totally new site developed by the original founders.”
  • Originally, the site was one of the biggest social media platforms in the world.

If you’re old enough to remember when you could only sign up for Facebook with a university email account, you’re probably old enough to remember Bebo. Before social media became dominated by Facebook and Twitter, it was one of the most popular sites on the internet.

Over the years, the platform lost its clout and changed hands numerous times. First, AOL bought it. Then AOL sold it and then it was sold again. It swapped from being a social media platform to a chat platform to a streaming platform, and on and on.

Now, though, it appears it’s getting back to its roots. According to the site’s front page, the 2021 iteration of Bebo will be a “totally new site developed by the original founders.” Those founders would be Michael and Xochi Birch, the husband-and-wife team who created the site at their Bay Area home in 2005.

Unfortunately, the site is in private beta at the moment. In order to gain access and see how this Bebo will be different from the others, you’ll need a password. This is likely only available for a select audience.

It’s unclear if they are serious or not, but the Birches do confirm that former President Donald Trump is pre-banned from the network.
