  • The Nubia Red Magic 6 series is now official in China.
  • Both phones sport 165Hz AMOLED displays, while the Pro gains up to 18GB of RAM and 120W charging.
  • An international launch is set for mid-March.

More phones are adopting high refresh rate displays, with gaming phones and flagships regularly touching 120Hz. But the Nubia Red Magic 6 is pushing that figure even higher.

The company announced the Red Magic 6 and 6 Pro in China with both touting 6.8-inch 2,400 x 1,080 AMOLED displays that can refresh at up to 165Hz. The screen can also scale down to 30Hz to save battery. Joining this cocktail is a 500Hz touch sampling rate (for single touch, 360Hz for multi-touch), which should improve the phone’s response time while gaming.

Beyond the display, the Red Magic 6 series seems a solid prospect. It arrives with the Snapdragon 888 chipset mated to at least 8GB RAM and 128GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

Power is provided by a 5,050mAh battery on the standard Red Magic 6 with a 4,500mAh unit on the Pro model. Oddly enough, the larger battery is paired with 66W charging. The Red Magic 6 Pro, however, gets 120W charging. Nubia notes this can charge the Pro’s battery from 0% to 50% in five minutes.

For imaging, the phones employ a 64+8+2MP setup, with ultrawide and macro shooters. An 8MP selfie camera also resides up front.

Other features include the return of the capacitive shoulder buttons, a copper heatsink that’s cooled by Nubia’s high RPM fans, and an in-display fingerprint sensor. Headphone jacks also feature on both models.

Nubia Red Magic 6 series: Price and availability

While the Nubia Red Magic 6 line is getting a global launch later this month, it’s already available in China. The standard model in the 8GB RAM/128GB storage config retails for 3,799 yuan (~$587). Colorways include Carbon Fiber Black and Cyber Neon.

The 6 Pro starts at 4,399 yuan (~$680) for the 12GB/128GB flavor. If cash isn’t a problem, an all-out 18GB/512GB transparent model is available for a dizzying 6,299 yuan (~$1,020).
