The Kia Sportage SUV Remains Unchanged for the 2022 Model Year

April 27, 2021

The fourth-generation Kia Sportage has been around for six years, and the compact SUV is beginning to look rather tired. Compared to the slightly smaller Kia Seltos, larger (and increasingly popular) Telluride, and the all-new midsize Sorento, the compact Sportage is due for an overhaul. That redesign will, apparently, wait another year, as not much has changed for the 2022 Sportage save for a few tech updates and the addition of a new LX Value Edition package.

Forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, driver attention warning, high beam assist, and blind-spot monitoring are now standard across the Sportage lineup. The Sportage LX Value Edition package adds heated front seats, 18-inch dark wheels, and a Smart Key with the push-button start feature to the volume LX trim level.

The tech package for the EX and SX Turbo models gets complimentary map updates, including new points of interest and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) features support. The Nightfall Edition package replaces the S trim, and the EX trim now comes equipped with a panoramic sunroof as standard.

The Sportage lineup’s two engine options remain the same, with a standard  2.4-liter I-4 rated at 181 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque and slightly more powerful 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 developing 240 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque for the SX Turbo.

The base model 2022 Kia Sportage LX starts at $25,265, while the top-of-the-line SX Turbo AWD wears a price tag of $36,425. We figure this could be the final year of the current body style of Kia’s longest-running nameplate, especially with the newly redesigned 2022 Hyundai Tucson—long a Sportage sibling beneath a unique skin—arriving to add pressure for Kia to redesign its version.

2022 Kia Sportage Lineup Pricing:

  • LX FWD: $25,265
  • LX AWD: $26,765
  • Nightfall FWD: $29,265
  • EX FWD: $29,565
  • Nightfall AWD: $30,965
  • EX AWD: $31,065
  • SX Turbo FWD: $34,925
  • SX Turbo AWD: $36,425
