The OnePlus 8T is worth it at the new price tag

The OnePlus 9 series recently launched, bringing several upgrades to the fold as well as a partnership with camera company Hasselblad. These new releases have also resulted in a discount for the six-month-old OnePlus 8T.

We conducted a long-term review of the OnePlus 8T and also asked Android Authority readers whether they thought the older phone was worth buying at its discounted $599 price tag. Here’s how you answered this question.

Is the OnePlus 8T worth it at $599?

Results

We posted the poll and long-term review on April 24, and 1,297 votes were tallied as of writing. Just over 17% of readers were on the wall about whether the OnePlus 8T was worth its discounted price tag.

Meanwhile, a total of 22.3% of respondents simply felt that the phone wasn’t worth buying even at the new price. Our own Luke Pollack came to this conclusion in his revisited review, citing rival devices like the OnePlus 8 Pro (available for $100 more) and the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE.

Luke also pointed to the vanilla OnePlus 9, which is available for $130 extra. For that extra cash, you get a better ultra-wide camera, wireless charging (outside India), and the Snapdragon 888 SoC.

The biggest result came from the “yes” camp though, as just over 60% of polled readers thought the OnePlus 8T was worth it at $599. I can see why people voted for this option too, as you’re still getting a great phone overall. There’s the Snapdragon 865 chipset, 120Hz OLED screen, 65W wired charging, 256GB of storage, and a 4,500mAh battery. You might not want to splash out $130 extra on the OnePlus 9 if all you need is a smooth experience and fast charging.

Comments

  • trentbg: Should be $499
  • Jonathan Kramer: The fact that the manufacturer continues to drop the price is telltale. And while I’m still rocking my 5T which won’t get Android 11, its build quality and performance are as good or better than this one; and all for $200!
  • Evan Sears: I switched to a pixel 5 but I’m keeping my 8T around because it’s just such a smooth device! Do you see them ever fixing the camera through software improvements??
  • Piotrex1993: The truth is that now you can find 8t in official OnePlus store on Aliexpress or gearbest with shipping from EU/US warehouse for as low as 480$ (I’ve paid this much 2 months ago on Aliexpress with 2 day shipping) and this is great deal compare to pixel or S20 FE.

Thanks for voting in our poll and for leaving comments. Do you think the OnePlus 8T is still a great phone in 2021? Let us know below.
