Phoebe Waller-Bridge Exits Amazon’s Mr. And Mrs. Smith Reboot Show

Phoebe Waller-Bridge will no longer star in Amazon’s reboot series of the movie Mr. And Mrs. Smith. The show was first announced in February, and Waller-Bridge was set to star alongside Donald Glover.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fleabag creator Waller-Bridge has exited Mr. And Mrs. Smith due to “creative differences.” Glover is still attached to the project, both as an actor, co-creator, and executive producer. Francesca Sloane (Fargo) is the showrunner on the series, which is currently being written and will start production in 2022. THR states that it was Glover who first approached Waller-Bridge about appearing with him in the show and that the split is entirely amicable.

Mr. And Mrs. Smith focuses on married assassins who are both hired to kill each other. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt played the roles in the 2005 movie, which was directed by Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Edge of Tomorrow) and made over $487 million at the worldwide box office.

Although Waller-Bridge has left this project, she will remain involved with Amazon. The studio previously co-produced the second season of Fleabag, and in 2019, she signed a huge deal with Amazon to develop new shows.

Waller-Bridge is part of the cast of the fifth Indiana Jones movie, which is currently in production ahead of a July 2022 release. The movie recently added Antonio Banderas to a cast that also includes Mads Mikkelsen, Boyd Holbrook, Shaunette Renee Wilson, and Thomas Kretschmann. Harrison Ford will return as the iconic archaeologist, with Logan’s James Mangold directing.
