Guy Known to Crash Expensive Cars Does So Again In NYC

There is no New York auto show this year, but boy do we have a different kind of New York auto show for you. It happened just down the street from the Javits Center, where the canceled New York auto show would have taken place right about this time, too! Check out the carnage caused by the owner of what’s left of this rare Porsche Gemballa Mirage GT on the Instagram posts below.

Driving like an asshole is always wrong, but doing so on city streets—even those emptied out by the ongoing pandemic—is an incredibly bad idea. There are pedestrians. Other cars. Plenty of things to hit, basically. Several New Yorkers captured this clown on video roaring wildly around Hell’s Kitchen on Tuesday around 7:30 in the morning before he crashed the Gemballa into a parked white Toyota minivan, as you can see in the clip below.

Then, on another Instagram feed we can see and hear it firing back up and attempting to run away from the scene of the crime. Stunned New Yorkers can be heard cursing in the background as the jerk drives wildly away, the Porsche shedding parts and even its hood along the way before several police vehicles stopped it on the corner of 11th Avenue and 43rd St. near the Jacob Javits Center.

According to the New York Post, the $750,000 car is owned by Benjamin Chen who was driving it during the series of seriously bad judgment calls. (He’s exhibited similarly flippant behavior in the past in other supercars.) There is even another video of Chen wearing a gray hoodie and black jeans being escorted from his wrecked GT by a state trooper. Insane. Chen was charged with reckless driving and DUI. Remember, people, driving is fun and we encourage everyone to enjoy it—but driving recklessly, in crowded areas? That’s just stupid enough to land you in jail, as it should. Also, for the love of all things supercar, can someone stop selling or lending this gentleman desirable cars?
