PS5 Boss Acknowledges Frustrations Around Supply, Says Sony Is “Laser-Focused” On Doing Better

The PlayStation 5 launched one year ago today, and it has been a tremendously successful first year, with 13.4 million consoles sold. But the numbers presumably could have been better were it not for the ongoing chip shortages impacting supply.

PlayStation boss Jim Ryan said in a blog post that he hears the frustrations that fans have about the supply situation, saying Sony is “laser-focused” on doing more to ship as many consoles as possible.

“I also want to thank everyone in the community for your patience,” Ryan said. “We continue to see historic demand for PS5 and we understand the inventory constraints remain a source of frustration for many of our customers. Rest assured that we are laser-focused on doing everything in our power to ship as many units as possible, it’s something we work on every day across the company and remains my top priority. Again, we appreciate your patience as we navigate through these unprecedented global challenges.”

Recently, it was reported that Sony had to reduce its PS5 production target by 1 million due to the shortages, which might make it harder to find a console this holiday. Nintendo and Microsoft are also facing similar issues impacting availability.

Also in the blog post, Ryan told fans there are “plenty of great things to come for PS5 in the future,” including more than 25 games currently in development at PlayStation’s first-party studios.

As part of the PS5’s first birthday celebrations, Sony also revealed the top 10 most popular PS5 games so far, and Fortnite is number one.
