Here’s the answer, hints for April 27

April 27, 2022

Have you spent the last 20+ hours pining for a new Wordle? You’re in luck — there’s one every day. As such, we’ve come up with a few hints and tips to help you along if you get stuck.

If you prefer to just find out the solution straight up, you can jump to the bottom of this article for April 27’s Wordle answer. But if you prefer to work through it yourself, keep reading for some clues, tips, and strategies to help you out.

Engineer Josh Wardle originally created Wordle as a gift for his partner and the word guessing game quickly spread around the world. Now thousands of players across the globe play Wordle each day, and it was purchased by the New York Times earlier this year for a very pretty penny.

Fans have also created numerous clones and riffs on Wordle, such as the battle royale format Squabble, music identification game Heardle, and variations like Dordle and Quordle that have you trying to guess multiple words at once. Wordle has also become unexpected content for livestreamers, with TikTok creators broadcasting themselves playing.

Not the day you’re after? Here’s the Wordle answer for April 26.

What’s the best Wordle starting word?

In the strictest sense, the “best” starting word is that day’s answer. But if you’re not clairvoyant, we have plenty of ideas to help you formulate a more strategic approach. One tip is to pick a word that includes at least two different vowels, plus some common consonants such as S, T, R, or N.

Explore the Wordle archive

We all have those days where one Wordle just isn’t enough. If you want more or feel like a bit of practice time, the entire archive of past puzzles is available for you to play whenever you want.

Is Wordle getting harder?

Wordle isn’t getting any harder, despite how it might feel on certain days! However, Wordle does have a Hard Mode you can turn on if you’re craving more of a challenge.

Why are there two different Wordle answers some days?

Occasionally the Wordle gods will accept two different answers on a single day, defying the accepted norm of one correct solution per day. This anomaly is due to changes the New York Times made to Wordle after it acquired the puzzle game earlier this year.

Here’s a subtle hint for today’s Wordle answer:

There’s only one vowel, and it’s right in the middle.

Does today’s Wordle answer have a double letter?

Nope!

Today’s Wordle is a 5-letter word that starts with…

Today’s Wordle solution begins with the letter… S.

What’s the answer to Wordle today?

Now’s your last chance to guess today’s Wordle before we reveal the answer!

Is your answer locked in?

The solution to Wordle #312 is…

SHOWN.

This feels like an unusual one, because Wordle‘s word list tends to stick to words in their original form rather than past tense or plural derivativations — otherwise half the answers could be four-letter words with an S tacked onto the end, right? A quick skim through the first few months of the original list turns up just one past-tense word: WROTE. It’s not a hard and fast rule, clearly, but it’s worth keeping in mind as you guess away each day.

Don’t be sad if you didn’t get it this time — we still have many more Wordle puzzles ahead of us. Come back tomorrow for more helpful clues and hints!
