TL;DR

  • The Google Pixel Fold purportedly has a smaller smartphone display than Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4.
  • This suggests that Google’s foldable will slot in between Samsung and Oppo’s devices in terms of size.

We’ve heard a lot about the Google Pixel Fold over the last year or so, as the device was initially rumored to be coming out in 2021. That clearly never happened, but the rumor mill is continuing to operate this week.

More specifically, he claims that you can expect the Google device to have a 5.8-inch display with a wider aspect ratio versus the Fold 4’s 6.19-inch panel. Young adds that the two devices should have similar-sized folding screens.

In other words, it sounds like the Google foldable will sit in between the compact Oppo Find N and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 when it comes to size (at least when closed). This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about the Pixel Fold being stubbier than Samsung’s foldable either, as setup animations spotted by 9to5Google earlier this year suggested this as well.

Young later added in a reply to a user that the Pixel Fold is expected to launch in Q4 2022, although he told CNET that a 2023 launch was possible as well.

The analyst has a great track record when it comes to display-related leaks, although we’d take any other claims with a healthy pinch of salt. But it certainly sounds like Google’s foldable is still in the works and on the way at some point.
