Fitbit is retiring the Fitbit Connect app that allows users to connect its devices with a PC. According to a support page spotted by folks over at 9to5Google, the app is going away on October 13, 2022. However, with it, the ability to transfer music from your PC to your Fitbit is also being discontinued.
If you are someone who owns a Fitbit Versa, Versa 2, or Ionic, you’ll no longer be able to connect your devices to your computer and sync your music for offline playback after the October deadline.
Fitbit has been slowly phasing out the Fitbit Connect app in favor of its mobile app. Without the app, legacy Fitbit users will have to stick to a paid subscription to either Pandora or Deezer to download music on their devices.
Fitbit’s support page says “you may be eligible for a 90-day trial” of either music streaming service, which will cost you $9.99/month for Deezer Premium or $4.99/month for Pandora Plus once the trial’s over.
The change does not affect those with newer Fitbit models, though. Devices like the Sense and Versa 3 already only let you download music through Pandora and Deezer.
If you have an older Fitbit, you’ll still be able to access the music you’ve downloaded from your PCs but won’t be able to transfer new music once the Fitbit Connect app is killed off.
