Tennessee dealership finance manager charged with theft

A finance manager at Chuck Hutton Chevrolet in Memphis, Tenn., has been charged with theft after the dealership accused him of pocketing cash payments from customers, according to local news station CBS 42.

The store’s general manager told police that questions arose when a customer’s cash down payment in the amount of $12,500 could not be accounted for, the station said.

Days after the money was discovered to be missing, the finance manager, Richard Parrish, allegedly presented his employer with a bank check for $12,000, according to the station’s report. Because the original payment was meant to have been in cash, however, the dealership continued investigating.

The store contacted two more of Parrish’s customers, who made cash down payments of $9,000 and $1,000; both customers confirmed they had been provided with handwritten receipts, the station reported without giving further details.

Parrish has been charged with theft of more $10,000. He has been released from jail without bond, the station reported.
Chuck Hutton Chevrolet did not respond to requests for comment from Automotive News, which was unable to reach Parrish.
