Ford extends downtime at Louisville Assembly over Escape software issue

Ford Motor Co. has extended the temporary closure of its Louisville Assembly Plant for another week as the company continues to deal with a software issue on its freshened Escape and Lincoln Corsair crossovers.

The plant will be down through Feb. 24, according to a note to employees confirmed by Ford. The company previously planned to re-open the plant Feb. 20.

In a message to employees earlier this month, the plant’s building chairman, Brandon Reisinger, said it was a software issue with the vehicle’s cluster.

“We’re on a day-by-day basis right now and I know that’s frustrating,” Reisinger told employees. “The issue we’ve got, the cluster, is a software issue. It’s not a hardware issue. If it were to get out, it would not be something that would endanger anybody … but it would have the vehicles coming back to the dealership.”

The plant is currently in the pre-production phase of the updated Escape and Corsair launch.
