Have you stuck to your new year’s fitness resolutions? It’s easier than ever with affordable fitness trackers and apps like Google Fit that keep a record of your progress. Gym memberships, nutritionists, and personal trainers could easily cost you hundreds of dollars each month.


Thankfully, as long as you’re willing to stick to a routine, a fitness app is all you need. iOS has the dedicated Apple Fitness+ service, but despite the abundance of features, it’s hard to justify the $14.99 monthly subscription.

2 Asana Rebel

Though it does offer a paid pro plan, the FitOn app prides itself on offering all workouts for free. Free always comes with a downside, right? True. No Thor, in this case. That said, FitOn does feature exclusive workout videos led by celebrities like Gabrielle Union and Halle Berry. A pro subscription would set you back $29.99 per year, but it’s only necessary if you plan to take advantage of the app’s personalized meal plans and heart rate monitoring.

Strava costs $7.99 per month, or as little as $5 if you go for an annual membership. It doesn’t offer as many premium features as some of the other apps on this list, but the price reflects that.

11 Sweat: Fitness App for Women

As per the name, Sweat features exercises curated specifically for women, from beginners to advanced. Many require minimal equipment, such as dumbbells and a skipping rope, or no equipment at all.

The app gives you access to workout videos guided by professional trainers and updates its content monthly. Sweat offers a free 7-day trial to start off with, but continuous use will cost you a premium: $19.99. That said, the app’s more focused design and the plethora of features could make the price worth it.

As per the name, Thenics focuses entirely on calisthenics. If you’re new to the concept, its origins can be traced back to Ancient Greece. This type of exercise puts emphasis on attaining lean muscle mass through rigorous body-weight training, such as pull-ups, push-ups, dips, and handstands.

Thenics guides you through specific exercises that enable you to perform increasingly difficult calisthenics positions. Better yet, many of said exercises require little to no equipment. Thenics offers a free 2-week trial of its Pro version. Premium subscriptions start at a comparatively low $3.49 monthly or $31.99 yearly. That said, the Pro version unlocks more advanced moves, like the human flag and the shrimp squat. So if you’re just starting out, the free version would totally suffice.

Fitness costs less than you think

Even the best fitness apps on Android rarely break the bank. Some of them, like Nike Training Club and Pumatrac, cost nothing at all. Sure, you may have to forego certain features or watch an ad here and there. But it should still be enough for you to stick to your goals and achieve them.
