Fast X CinemaCon Trailer Puts The Whole Family In The Action

Universal is already having a great year with the way The Super Mario Bros. Movie has dominated the box office, and with Fast X on the horizon that year is probably about to get even better. With just a few weeks left to go before the film lands in theaters, Vin Diesel and other members of the Fast Family took to the CinemaCon stage to present an extended version of the final theatrical trailer that featured a number of sick new action sequences.

Vin Diesel didn’t initially come out, though. The presentation began with Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, and Sung Kang recapping the series a little bit before Vin came out to not just hype Fast X, but also its sequel.

“This summer is only the beginning of Fast X. And with all of your effort and with all of your love and the fact that you are a part of our family, Fast X will continue. And after this explosive summer, I will have the privilege to stand in front of you again for Part 2 in 2025.” It was reported last week that Louis Leterrier, who directed Fast X, will return for Fast X-2, but this was the first we’d heard of a 2025 release for the tenth Fast & Furious sequel.

Diesel also noted a milestone for the franchise. “Fast is now the longest franchise in motion picture history…with the same actors playing the same characters,” Diesel said. And it’s true–no main cast member has ever been replaced by a different actor beyond Brian being played by Paul Walker’s brother in parts of Furious 7 after Walker died while the film was in production.

The CinemaCon extended trailer began with Brie Larson’s character getting a bit of a briefing on the immense and dramatic history of Dominic Toretto and his #family from Scott Eastwood’s unnamed government guy. But Little Nobody thinks their glory days are behind them.

“The days where one man in a car can make a difference are over,” he says.

From there, the footage shifted into full trailer mode, hopping around between various scenes and set pieces. We go from a shot of Dom being transported as a prisoner in a motorcade, to a scene of John Cena’s Jakob protecting Dom’s son Lil Brian in that cannon car, in that scene we saw in the last trailer.

The CinemaCon trailer also showed us more of a pretty intense fight scene between Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) and Cipher (Charlize Theron) that was in the last trailer–in CinemaCon’s extended version of this sequence they showed a part where Cipher almost manages to kill Letty with lasers in the middle of the fight.

Fast X roars into movie theaters on May 19.
