* Note that by vowel we mean the five standard vowels (A, E, I, O, U), not Y (which is sometimes counted as a vowel too).

The puzzle-setters at Merriam-Webster gave us an easy Quordle today: two of the words end in the same ATE format, meaning that once you had one you had an advantage with the other. The fact that two also begin with P may have helped too; once you had PLATE you’d therefore have had an advantage with both AGATE and PRIDE.

Against that, AGATE is itself a difficult word for Quordle: it’s relatively obscure, contains a repeated A, and also has a near-neighbor in ABATE. But I had enough spare guesses that I wasn’t unduly stressed and was able to solve today’s game in eight moves.
