Amazon Pharmacy is expanding its same-day delivery service to 20 more U.S. cities next year, the company announced on Wednesday. Amazon says the expansion will more than double the number of cities where customers can get same-day delivery of their medications.
As part of the expansion, Amazon is opening up new pharmacies that will include Amazon Same-Day Delivery sites to enable faster medication delivery in the 20 new cities.
The expansion, which aims to make quick medication delivery available in almost half of the U.S., marks Amazon’s latest efforts to accelerate its healthcare services.
Although Amazon didn’t reveal the full list of the 20 new cities, the company said customers in Boston, Dallas, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, and San Diego will get access to the same-day medication delivery service. Amazon says it will announce additional cities in the coming months.
Amazon’s same-day medication delivery is already available in New York, Los Angeles, Indianapolis, Miami, Phoenix, Seattle and Austin.
Amazon says Amazon Pharmacy customers already receive their medications in two days or less on average. By the end of 2025, 45% of U.S. customers will be eligible for Same-Day delivery of their medications, the company says, which means that a customer can order medication by 4 p.m. and have it delivered by 10 p.m.
The company launched Amazon Pharmacy in 2020 after it purchased online pharmacy PillPack in 2018. Last year, Amazon launched RxPass, a service that offers Prime members in the U.S. as many generic versions of medications as they need for a $5 monthly fee.
In addition to same-day medication delivery, Amazon Pharmacy has been offering drone deliveries in College Station, Texas since January 2023. Packages are delivered by drone within 60 minutes of being ordered via Amazon Pharmacy.
