Samsung dropped the ball big time with the Android 15 rollout for its devices. It only kicked off the One UI 7 beta program in early December, and after a few hiccups, pushed the stable build for its devices in April 2025 — a full six months after Android 15’s public release. Thankfully, Galaxy owners won’t have to wait as long for Android 16.
During The Android Show, Google’s President of the Android Ecosystem, Sameer Samat, revealed that “Samsung and many other” devices will get Android 16 “this summer.” That means compatible Galaxy phones could start receiving Android 16-based One UI 8 sometime between late June and late September.
Google will push the stable build of Android 16 to its Pixel devices in June — a few months ahead of its usual timeframe. So, an early One UI 8 release also makes sense. Plus, it will help Samsung reclaim its lost credibility after the significant delay in rolling out One UI 7.
A report from last week claimed Samsung would start its One UI 8 beta program as early as this month. Given that the company typically runs such a program for a few weeks, July seems the most plausible month for the stable Android 16 build to hit recent flagship Galaxy devices.
One UI 8 will focus on polish, won’t be a big overhaul
Samsung is already working hard on One UI 8, with early leaked beta firmware revealing several changes. Most appear to be minor refinements, indicating the company will focus on refining the revamped UI that it introduced with One UI 7 rather than overhauling it again. It will seemingly introduce an audio version of Now Brief and several Now Bar-related improvements to make it more useful. Many of Samsung’s system apps will also get minor UI tweaks to better align with One UI 7’s design changes.
One UI 8 won’t bring Material 3 Expressive design to your Galaxy device, though. Google’s new design language for Android will only arrive later this year, with Android 16’s first Quarterly Platform Release (QPR). So expect Samsung to bring any Material 3 Expressive-related UI changes with One UI 8.1 later in the year.
