Say More: Danny Boyle reveals the tech and origins of ’28 Years Later’s most shocking moments

In 2002, director Danny Boyle and screenwriter Alex Garland re-imagined zombies with the blockbuster thriller 28 Days Later. Now, they reteam for 28 Years Later, which not only serves as a sequel to their game-changing horror hit, but also kicks off its own trilogy.

In this week’s episode of Say More, Entertainment Editor Kristy Puchko sat down with Boyle in Mashable’s New York City studio to dig into 28 Years Later and the films that led him here. From critically heralded films like Trainspotting and Slumdog Millionaire to fan favorites like Sunshine or the “big flop” A Life Less Ordinary, Boyle shares what drives him to leap from horror to musicals, and back again.

He also divulges details on how the iPhone 15 Pro Max was used to capture some of 28 Years Later‘s goriest moments, what this movie has in common with the vampire epic Sinners, and his thoughts on bringing phones into movie theaters. Fans of his more subversive works won’t be surprised by his answer.

Ultimately, however, Boyle and Puchko explored the power of art, and how a good redemption in art can be its own form of healing.

Mashable’s Say More will have new episodes every Friday, viewable on Mashable and YouTube.
