Looking for a different day?

A new NYT Strands puzzle appears at midnight each day for your time zone – which means that some people are always playing ‘today’s game’ while others are playing ‘yesterday’s’. If you’re looking for Friday’s puzzle instead then click here: NYT Strands hints and answers for Friday, October 10 (game #586).

Strands is the NYT’s latest word game after the likes of Wordle, Spelling Bee and Connections – and it’s great fun. It can be difficult, though, so read on for my Strands hints.

Want more word-based fun? Then check out my NYT Connections today and Quordle today pages for hints and answers for those games, and Marc’s Wordle today page for the original viral word game.

SPOILER WARNING: Information about NYT Strands today is below, so don’t read on if you don’t want to know the answers.

The answers to today’s Strands, game #587, are…

  • PEACOCK
  • ARCHES
  • APPLE
  • BULLSEYE
  • SHELL
  • SWOOSH
  • SPANGRAM: ICONICLOGOS

  • My rating: Easy
  • My score: Perfect

All of these ICONICLOGOS have the same thing in common – that we do not need to know the names of the companies to recognize the brands.

Their power is such that Target’s BULLSEYE and NBC’s PEACOCK are known beyond the US, while the others are ubiquitous across the globe.

Considering their fame it’s incredible to think of the humble origins of many of these logos. The Nike SWOOSH, for example, was created by a graphic design student called Carolyn Davidson. The apocryphal story is that she was paid just $35 for her work, but several years later the company gave her a gift of shares that were worth $85 at the time but by 2023 could have been cashed in $3 million – so not such a bad payday after all.

I’ve got a full guide to how to play NYT Strands, complete with tips for solving it, so check that out if you’re struggling to beat it each day.
