New Metroid Prime 4 Trailer Has Space Battles, Samus Flips, And An Akira Slide

Nintendo has unveiled a new Metroid Prime 4: Beyond trailer titled Survive, showcasing what awaits Samus Aran on the planet Viewros. The roughly 70-second video features the bounty hunter’s gunship in aerial combat and a pretty slick motorcycle move by Samus that’s an homage to the Akira slide.

The Metroid Prime 4 trailer–seen below–also highlights a variety of locales on the mysterious planet. Samus finds herself in a lush jungle, outside a spiky black building that would look at home in The Matrix, and what we can only assume is the obligatory lava area at one point. The bounty hunter also scans a new enemy mechanoid called a psy-bot soldier as well as fights the boss Aberax (previously highlighted during a Nintendo Treehouse stream).

The futuristic motorcycle named Vi-O-La gets teased again in the new video, as Samus rides the vehicle across a desert while fighting enemies. Last but not least, Sylux appears at the end, teasing the rival hunter as the main antagonist for the Switch and Switch 2 game.

Last month, a leaked Metroid Prime 4 ad seemingly revealed a new boss. The commercial in question shows a player using mouse controls with the Switch 2 Edition of the game before encountering the spherical Xelios foe.

Earlier this year, GameSpot got hands-on time with Metroid Prime 4. The game from developer Retro Studios is set to launch on December 4–exactly one month away. However, two of the game’s Amiibo arrive this week. Meanwhile, Nintendo just announced that Switch 2 has already sold 10 million units in four months.
