Motorola’s next Razr shows up early, and one detail stands out

April 20, 2026

We already knew that Motorola was expected to release its latest Razr devices soon; we just didn’t know it would be this soon. A teaser trailer shown by the company in an X post hints at an April 29th, 2026, release, a few weeks earlier than the rumored May 21st date.

A potential release date isn’t the only thing Motorola teased. While we’ve seen a few of the colors on previous Razr devices, the short clip was dominated by the color purple, including hints of a quilted purple Razr, much like the design on last year’s Swarovski variant. It’s unclear which colors will make it to which models, but it’s always refreshing to see companies mix it up with colorways.

Motorola has plenty of challenges with the Razr

The price is most likely going up

I love that Motorola understands its Razr audience. It’s meant to be a fun and stylish phone, and it appears Moto has leaned into that again this year. The purple variant looks gorgeous, but there are also brief clips of mocha, black, and green options. Clamshell foldables are as much about form as they are about function, and I know I carry one around because it’s a cool aesthetic.

Unfortunately, there is plenty of reason to worry about this year’s Razr lineup. Rumored pricing is steep, and it’s unclear how much the company has done to justify it. 9to5Google reports that the Razr Ultra might start at $1,500 — a wallet-punishing figure. More alarming are leaks suggesting the base Razr will now start at $800. I know the same component pricing crisis that is hitting everyone else would eventually hit Motorola, but that doesn’t mean I have to like it.

Like with the Moto G Stylus (2026), I hope the company has bundles or aggressive sales to help soften the blow. Motorola routinely has initial MSRPs that confound reviewers like me, but they never last long. Holidays and year-round discounts often flood in quickly, as they did with last year’s Razr Ultra. It’s yet to be seen whether Motorola’s foldable lineup will be worth it in 2026, but today’s leak from the company at least lets us know it will still be stylish.
