Google Wallet just got a big upgrade ahead of the busy travel season

Google Wallet is one of the most versatile digital wallet solutions out there. Not only can you use it to store your important credit and debit cards, but it can also hold other important bits like your state ID, passport, event tickets, transit passes, digital car keys, and so much more.

It’s the all-in-one solution that can really allow you to ditch your wallet. Naturally, it’s evolved to handle all of this over time, with Google making improvements here and there by adding features we never knew we even needed. One of those features is Wallet’s Live Updates feature, providing real-time data for transit and events.

A game-changer for when you’re on the go

Now, if you’re not familiar with Live Updates, it can show you up-to-date information about your transit method or certain events, giving you a heads-up without having to pop into an app, reading an email, or do some researching on your own. With the newest update for Google Wallet going live, you’ll always be able to see what’s going on with your flight (via 9to5Google).

The moment you book your flight, Wallet is ready to show you the latest information about your flight, and even provides an easy-to-access QR code so you can use it to scan into your flight when needed. If you’re using an Android device with Android 16 and later, Wallet will now show you take off, flight time, and an estimated arrival time.

This information is present on the lockscreen or always-on display if you have it enabled. As you can imagine, this is pretty vital, especially when it comes to big travel days using alternate forms of transportation. We always go in hoping for the best, checking into our flights hours ahead, clearing security, and getting seated at our boarding gate.

But there are those times when it can be unpredictable. A flight can be delayed for a number of reasons, gates can also change, and there could even be cancellations. Having vital information available at a quick glance is important. You can keep those around you up to date, and you don’t need to dig into a variety of apps just to get the answers you’re looking for.

If you have an Android phone running Android 16 or later, you’ll want to update Google Wallet and also any associated services in order to get Live Updates for flights working on your phone. This is just in time ahead of the busy travel season.
