The new Fitbit has a release date, and it’s closer than you think

It’s been a while since Fitbit released a new device. While other brands are churning out refreshed models, Fitbit has laid dormant for a couple of years now, making many people question whether Google has any intention of utilizing the brand at all beyond its software.

Luckily, that’s about to change, with Fitbit sharing a new post on its Instagram, teasing a new device launching on May 7, 2026 (via 9to5Google). As far as what it could be, the chances are pretty high that we’ll hear more about the Fitbit Air, a screenless device similar to what Whoop offers.

A new chapter for Fitbit

If you’ve been in the dark for the past month or so, Fitbit has been teasing this new hardware with its Google ‘Performance Advisor,’ Stephen Curry. The athlete has been seen wearing something on his wrist which many believe to be a screenless health tracking product from Fitbit.

Naturally, there hasn’t really been much discussion about this device, but there have been leaks and rumors. While many figured that this would make an appearance at Google I/O, it appears that we’re now getting it a little earlier. As far as what we know, this device will be easy to use and lightweight.

And while some tracking features will be free to use, others will require a subscription. Perhaps most important is the battery life. Without a screen, we should be looking at health and fitness tracking that far exceeds a normal smartwatch. As far as why this is such a big deal? Well, Whoop has dominated this space for quite some time, and this is the first time a large brand is making something similar.
