In a stale sea of cheap, unimaginative phone and tablet mounts, the Rolling Square Edge Pro Core stands out like a breath of fresh air. This modular gadget is compatible with MagSafe and magnetic Qi2 devices, and you get an adapter ring for free with the kit.
You must be starting to see why the Rolling Square Edge Pro Core is one of the ultimate MagSafe, Pixelsnap, and Qi2 accessories, as named by me over and over again.
Installation isn’t a drag, you can figure it out in a few short minutes
Setting up the Rolling Square Edge Pro Core might sound intimidating in your head, but it’s really straightforward in actuality. Rolling Square’s explanatory setup video does an amazing job of telling you what’s in the box, how to use each item, and the basic setup steps. The instructions even teach you how to remove the adhesive.
Installation is as simple as pie. You hold your phone up next to the screen where you’d like it to be mounted. Mark that spot in your mind, or with something tangible but temporary like a whiteboard marker. If it helps, flip the screen the other way around and mark that spot on the back as well, just to remember the exact placement you prefer.
I broke the rules for aesthetics, but please don’t follow my footsteps. You’re supposed to clean the back of the display or monitor and stick the base metal plate on the plain surface.
I couldn’t bear to destroy my carefully curated yet chaotic laptop, which is sticker-bombed like nobody’s business. So, I just stuck the base on top of the stickers. As you can see in the pictures below, Tanjiro Kamado survived the ordeal.
Despite my blatant rule-breaking, the Edge Pro Core still holds up my Pixel 10 Pro without any issue. The adhesive base didn’t pop off or droop, and it held up the mounting plate steadily. It’s really quite impressive to see a magnetic mount snap onto this slim disc. The base plate that sticks to the monitor or screen is merely 2.5mm thick. How in the world is it this sturdy?
Even after you snap on the mounting plate with its hinge and two sides, it barely adds any weight or bulk to your screen. I love the book-like hinge mechanism that can be adjusted on the fly, so the angle of your phone or tablet is always just right.
This is the best way to use your phone or tablet as a second screen
Of course, the biggest draw of the Rolling Square Edge Pro Core is that it’s only 2.5mm (0.1 in) thick. But the benefits don’t end there. You can use the mounting plate with the hinge on its own as a standalone phone stand. But most importantly, Rolling Square created a buildable ecosystem, but not one that’s limited to first-party accessories. I applaud them for it!
You can get any MagSafe light and slap it onto the magnetic mount. Many other wireless chargers, apart from those designed for the Edge Pro Core, can also work with it. As long as something is magnetic, it will stay put on the Edge Pro Core mount.
And since the base plate and mount altogether are still reasonably slim, you can just leave it there. I didn’t even bother stowing it away when taking my laptop outside with me. In fact, I just let it hang on to the back of my laptop and put the entire setup in my backpack without any noticeable differences in weight or bulk.
At $29.90 for the base Rolling Square Edge Pro Core kit, I highly recommend this out-of-the-box mounting setup. It’s worth every cent and every dollar.
