Google heavily marketed Magic Cue during the Pixel 10’s launch last year. But nine months later, the feature has not lived up to the hype. Google has not given up on the feature, though. At I/O 2026, the company confirmed that Magic Cue will soon work with more third-party apps.
On paper, Magic Cue sounds like a great idea. However, in practice, it only works with a handful of apps, such as Gmail, Messages, Maps, and Keep, which limits its usefulness.
Google plans to make amends and expand third-party app support for Magic Cue. During I/O 2026’s What’s new in Android session, the company revealed that Magic Cue will soon work with more apps, though it didn’t specify which ones. In the demo, Google showed Magic Cue working with Snapchat.
Based on the demo shown during the session (via Droid Life), Google will also seemingly redesign Magic Cue, putting its floating chip at the bottom. It will feature the same glowing design as Gemini.
This actually makes a lot more sense, and should make Magic Cue recommendations more visible. It will be especially important once Magic Cue starts working with more apps.
Magic Cue needs more apps to matter
Unfortunately, unless Google adds several popular third-party apps to Magic Cue’s list of supported apps, the feature will remain a gimmick. The company promised that Magic Cue would act as a proactive assistant, surfacing relevant information automatically as and when needed. However, limited app support appears to have greatly limited Magic Cue’s usefulness.
Integration with apps like Uber, Spotify, or Slack could make Magic Cue more useful in daily use. Imagine your Pixel surfacing a boarding pass from Gmail when you open Uber on the way to the airport, suggesting quick replies to a WhatsApp message while navigating in Maps, or pulling up a meeting note from Keep when you launch Slack before a work call.
Besides more apps, Google also needs to work on expanding Magic Cue’s availability to more markets and languages.
Google could roll out these Magic Cue improvements as part of Android 17 in the coming weeks or with the Pixel 11 series in August this year.
