Spotify just unveiled a standalone app called Studio by Spotify Labs, and it isn’t something we would have imagined the music streaming giant building, let alone launching.
Essentially a NotebookLM-like tool, Spotify Labs’ Studio app is meant to help users explore topics by generating a podcast about it.
Everything you need to know about NotebookLM, Google’s ‘AI-powered research assistant’
This ain’t your granddad’s notebook
The app can integrate with your calendar, inbox, bookmarks, and more, allowing it to generate spoken-dialogue podcasts with relevant context, as pointed out by the streaming giant.
So, for example, let’s say you want to keep an Audio Overview-like podcast for your upcoming trip, you can prompt the app with something like “Create a daily audio brief for my road trip through Italy. Walk me through my day using my calendar and bookings. Recommend a memorable dinner spot near where I’ll be. And end with a podcast recommendation I’d love for the drive.“
Elsewhere, the tool can create a private daily briefing just for you, generate a playlist for a long drive, or generate a short podcast on a topic you want to learn more about.
Similar to NotebookLM’s Audio Overviews, you can fine-tune Spotify Studio’s results. You can refine your requests, adjust the vibe, “or take things in a completely new direction whenever the mood strikes.”
Once created, you then have the option to save the generation as a Personal Podcast right within your Spotify library. Said generations will sync across all your devices.
Studio by Spotify Labs will launch as a standalone desktop app in Research Preview to select users in 20+ markets, ages 18 and over, in the coming weeks. We’ll have more to share once we can get our hands on the app.
