This comes after the tech giant rolled out a similar ‘Images‘ tab to the app.
The change, which reportedly caters to those that prefer video content to reading, was manually enabled by the folks over at Android Authority. The change isn’t live for the wider public just yet.
If and when the development does go live, it will materialize in the form of a new bottom bar It will show up alongside existing ones, including Home, Search, and Activity, as seen in the screenshots below.
It’s worth noting that even though the new icon was manually enabled, tapping it, as of right now, does nothing. That’s likely because the feature’s backend infrastructure still isn’t in place.
The scope of this integration’s video content isn’t immediately clear. It will most definitely highlight relevant YouTube content, including short form videos and videos related to your interests and recent searches. However, it could also highlight videos from other sources, including social media platforms and other streaming sites.
The Video tab could function similarly to the Images tab, allowing users to save content to collections, complete with a search bar for manually looking up videos, and filter chips to fine tune and refine results.
It’s not entirely clear if and when this feature will make out to the masses.
