While Samsung’s reportedly busy toiling away at its next major Android OS for phones, rumors suggest it’s also focusing on its watches.
Late into the evening, SamMobile spotted a rumor on X suggesting Samsung is already working on One UI 9 Watch. Rumors from tipster Tony Tech claim that “Samsung is preparing the first beta of One UI Watch 9.0.” Health metrics are supposedly getting a glow-up in this new software. There was little to discuss; however, the tipster claims these metrics could receive “optimizations” for the BioActive Sensor, the same one in the Galaxy Watch 8.
What’s more, joining these optimized metrics would be even larger and widespread Galaxy AI integration for Galaxy Watches. Aside from “more advanced AI capabilities,” the tipster claims Samsung is developing “health reports and smarter insights.” It seems that the company is looking to make the health data it records throughout the day matter.
The X post positions this development as one that could give users meaningful health assistance and information, rather than simply showing numbers. We’ve seen this approach taken by others before (think Fitbit and its health coach). Aside from the rumor, there’s no suspected date for when Samsung’s watches could get in on their respective Wear OS 7 (Android 17) beta.
Wear OS 7 inbound
If we look at Samsung’s recent history, perhaps expecting a One UI 9 Watch beta isn’t so strange. Rumors about its OS 8.0 Watch beta started around May last year; however, it seems we’re a little later in the year this time. Those reports held a little more insight, suggesting Gemini actions, a Now Bar, and more—most of which we’ve received and have on our Galaxy Watch 8, alongside others. Samsung quickly rolled the new software out, then turned its attention to 2024’s Galaxy Watch Ultra.
One UI 9 Watch is expected to feature Google’s Wear OS 7 software. The company showcased much of what’s involved with this new OS during I/O 2026. Google has been working on Live Updates for deliveries, sports scores, and rides. Thanks to Gemini Intelligence, users with Wear OS 7 can automate tasks from their wrist. Subtle optimizations are eager to extend the battery life of watches, while Google has also developed a more unified workout tracking system.

It’s early days, so there’s not much to unravel. What’s probably the most interesting is what’s been rumored for Samsung’s health insights. If we’re on the verge of getting more actionable intel about our health data, that sounds good. Fitbit’s been moving down that road (now the Google Health app). If I’m not mistaken, Oura’s also been stepping up its health data, but that’s always been quite sharp.
