There is no listing for the Google Home Speaker on the Best Buy site for the US or on the Google Store, however.
The Best Buy Canada listing shows only the two colors that will be available in Canada: the deep gray Hazel and the off-white Porcelain. In the US, the Google Home speaker will also be available in the serene green Jade and punchy pink Berry. The US price will be $99.99.
Just past the deadline
Google announced the Google Home Speaker in October of last year and gave it a release date of spring 2026. If the Best Buy Canada listing has the correct date, that puts it four days past spring and into summer.
Four days is not so long though considering that it’s been six years since Google released a smart speaker, the Nest Audio, and five years since it released a smart display, the Nest Hub.
Gemini might be the holdup
The Google Home Speaker is “engineered for Gemini,” and that might be the reason why it hasn’t yet met its targeted release date.
The integration of Gemini into existing and new products has not been smooth. Gemini for Home got some much-needed updates in early March after a raft of complaints about smart home devices that had ceased to listen. And some Fitbit users are not taking the news of the migration to the Gemini-packed Google Health app well.
There is a lot of pressure for the Google Home Speaker to work smoothly right out of the gate since it’s been so long anticipated and because it will be the first Google smart home product created around Gemini.
