Navigation apps can be lifesavers. And while there are many different options out there, they all pretty much do the same thing when it comes to the basics. Of course, it’s the small details that really matter, which is why some people prefer Google Maps, while others will go with something like Waze.
The small details matter
If you’re in the latter camp, you’ll be happy to know that Waze is rolling out a small improvement that adds traffic signals to your journey. The feature was first shared on Reddit and was picked up by 9to5Google. While it isn’t a huge detail, some people will find the addition of traffic lights on the map helpful while driving.
This is something that has been available on rival apps and services for some time now, and with this new addition, there’s a good chance that more people will finally make the switch to Waze. While it does appear to be rolling out to more users, it’s unclear just how wide this update will be.
There have been reports for some months now about this feature, and others have reported it showing up on their app before this latest post on Reddit. If you’re a Waze user, we recommend updating your app to the latest version and seeing whether the traffic lights pop up for you. If not, you’ll just have to wait it out to see.
Is Waze the best option?
If you’ve been thinking about switching to Waze, there are a number of great reasons. The most obvious one is the simplicity of Waze. Unlike Google Maps, which has become so bloated with information and features, Waze feels like a breath of fresh air when you use it.
Some people also feel that Waze puts navigation first, ensuring you get to choose how you get to your destination. The app also allows users to report incidents along a route in order to create a crowdsourced database that automatically gets shared in the app. While this used to be unique, we now see this in other apps as well.
Of course, there are drawbacks to Waze, like the app not supporting offline maps. And some users complain that the app is too simple. Again, it’s all going to be based on your preference. Personally, I’ve used Google Maps in one country, and Waze in another.
But if you haven’t, I still think Waze is worth giving a try, especially because it doesn’t cost you anything. You can download from the Play Store to see how you like it. If it’s not your thing, you can always return to your default navigation software.
