TL;DR

  • Google is rolling out a new Pixel feature called “Emergency Sharing.”
  • Emergency Sharing is designed to work with the Pixel’s core incident detection features, like Car Crash and Fall Detection.
  • If a severe event is detected, Emergency Sharing will notify your chosen contacts and call emergency services.

It’s not something anyone wants to think about, but emergencies are a part of life. In these moments, Pixel devices offer a range of features to help ensure your safety, like Emergency Contacts and Fall Detection. With today’s Pixel Drop, Google is extending the Pixel’s list of incident-related tools with a new feature.

For those with a Pixel Watch, you’ll soon have access to a feature called “Emergency Sharing.” This feature is designed to work with the Pixel’s core incident detection features. As a quick overview, these detection features include Car Crash Detection (supported on Pixel Watch 2 and up), Fall Detection (supported on Pixel Watch 2 and up), and Loss of Pulse Detection (supported on Pixel Watch 3 and up).

True to its name, Emergency Sharing will notify your chosen contacts and call emergency services if an incident occurs. You’ll also be able to customize who gets notified depending on the event in your Emergency Contact settings. So your Emergency Contacts for Fall Detection may be different than the ones you picked for Loss of Pulse Detection.

Emergency Sharing isn’t the only feature Google is rolling out in June’s Pixel Drop. For example, Pixel phones are getting a tool called Screen Reactions. Google is also expanding Android parental controls.
