Philips Hue has smartened up its lighting selections with an expansion of its lamp offerings and a new take on a candle bulb.
Lamps that light the path to entertainment
The Philips Hue Play Table Lamp and Philips Hue Play Floor Lamp share an unusual design that has a purpose.
They’re both slim poles partially wrapped in LEDs and wedged into black conical bases. The table lamp is 23.6 inches tall and the floor lamp is 53 inches tall.
The lamps are meant to be accessories to your TV screen, splashing surrounding walls with color that is in sync with movies, gaming, and music that’s onscreen. They can be paired with the Philips Hue Play HDMI Sync Box or the Philips Hue Sync TV and PC apps.
Their slender shape lets them stand unobtrusively whether they’re positioned next to TVs or tucked into corners. They share a design language with the more expensive Hue Gradient Signe line.
However, they don’t offer the trio of black, white, and oak base color choices that the Gradient Signe line does. And they are not quite as bright, with the Hue Play Table Lamp giving off 400 lumens compared with the Hue Gradient Signe Table Lamp’s 1,040 lumens, and the Hue Play Floor Lamp giving off 1,040 lumens compared with the Hue Gradient Signe Floor Lamp’s 2,550 lumens.
But the lamps are nearly half the price of the Gradient Signe line. The Hue Play Table Lamp is $79.99, while the Hue Play Floor Lamp is $149.99. Both are available today.
Dark mode, blue-light filters, and one lighting trick finally fixed my eyestrain problem
I shouldn’t be surprised that hours staring at a screen have had a negative impact
A fresh take on the Candle bulb
Philips Hue’s Candle bulbs have been updated to be 40% more energy efficient. And they now offer full-spectrum daylight technology, so that they can mimic actual soft candlelight and noontime daylight. The bulbs can reach up to 500 lumens.
Their pleasing flame shape is designed to be seen in decorative fixtures, chandeliers, and wall sconces.
The bulbs are built for an E12 socket and now have Matter support.
