One UI 9 test builds reveal Samsung’s first Android 17 targets

Samsung’s upcoming Unpacked event will debut an all-new wide-screen foldable, but that isn’t the only major new thing we’re expecting from the event. There’s also going to be new software.

Google has already started rolling out Android 17 to its Pixel devices, and Samsung doesn’t want to be too far behind.

Samsung’s Android 17-based One UI 9 update will likely first land on the South Korean tech giant’s upcoming foldables, before expanding to older devices in the near future.

For what it’s worth, One UI 9’s beta testing is already live for the Galaxy S26 series, and while the build isn’t available for older devices just yet, test builds found on internal servers show the scope of the eventual rollout (via SammyGuru).

Here is every Samsung device spotted with active One UI 9 test builds:

Samsung Galaxy S series:

  • Galaxy S26
  • Galaxy S26+
  • Galaxy S26 Ultra
  • Galaxy S25
  • Galaxy S25+
  • Galaxy S25 Ultra
  • Galaxy S24
  • Galaxy S24+
  • Galaxy S24 Ultra
  • Galaxy S24 FE

Samsung Galaxy Z series:

  • Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra (unreleased)
  • Galaxy Z Flip 8 (unreleased)
  • Galaxy Z Fold 8 (unreleased)
  • Galaxy Z Fold 7
  • Galaxy Z Flip 7

Samsung Galaxy A series:

  • Galaxy A57
  • Galaxy A56
  • Galaxy A34
  • Galaxy A18 (unreleased)
  • Galaxy A17
  • Galaxy A16

Samsung Galaxy Tabs:

  • Galaxy Tab S12+ (unreleased)
  • Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra (unreleased)
  • Galaxy Tab S11
  • Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra
  • Galaxy Tab S10+
  • Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra

For what it’s worth, these are the only devices that have active One UI 9 test builds. This doesn’t mean One UI 9 will be limited to these devices.

For reference, the Galaxy S23 series is expected to receive the update, with One UI 9 being the final major OS update for the series. The same goes for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Z Flip 5.

From what we already know, One UI 9 will make it easier to trigger Lockdown Mode, give you the option to block internet access for specific apps, give you suggestions when editing images, and more.

We expect to learn more about other new One UI 9 features over the coming weeks.
