Google Home speakers can finally play SiriusXM again after weeks of frustration

Google’s latest Home Speaker is finally hitting store shelves tomorrow, June 25. For reference, this is Google’s first speaker release since 2020’s Nest Audio, and that means it needs to be special.

Although the hardware is new, Google has made changes on the software side to make the new launch feel special.

For reference, Google gave your Gemini-powered home speakers more accurate and detailed weather forecasts, enhanced video browsing, conversational volume controls, and more! Now, the company is also doing away with a long-standing bug too.

For those unaware, Google Home speakers have recently been unable to play SiriusXM. The glitch was reported by user Phanatic4, highlighting that speakers were returning with the “I looked for that, but it either isn’t available or can’t be played right now” error.

Users have since tried several troubleshooting steps, but none have really helped with the issue. Thankfully, Google is no longer leacing troubleshooting to customers (via AndroidAuthority).

Almost a month later, Google has officially announced that it has fixed the issue.

On the same Reddit thread, the official Google Nest Community account wrote, “Thanks for your patience with this. We’ve resolved an issue impacting the ability to stream SiriusXM on some Google Home devices.”

Google did not provide a diagnosis, though it did request feedback in case the bug was still affecting users.

So, if you’ve spent the last few weeks avoiding SiriusXM commands, it is now time to resume your streams. I have my new Google Home Speaker coming in tomorrow, so I’ll definitely be testing this out firsthand.
