If you’ve ever had to tally both the purchases made on Google Wallet on your phone and the purchases made on Google Wallet on your smartwatch to calculate your recent spending, you can now save a step.
The Google Wallet app has finally brought both together, as spotted by 9to5Google.
I replaced my transit card with Google Wallet; here’s what I wish I knew beforehand
I wish someone had told me these things before I made the switch
A much-needed change that was in the works for a while
Previously, those who opened the app on their phone saw the last 10 purchases made on the device, even if they bought things with a Wear OS smartwatch that used the exact same account. A fuller picture was available only by logging in to Google Wallet’s site.
The reason for the divide was because for security reasons, Google Wallet issues a different virtual card number for each device, even though the actual credit card number is the same.
Transactions now appear together in the app, with “Purchase made on watch” appearing beneath the date and time. However, only the last 10 purchases total can be seen in the app.
If you want to see your entire transaction history on the Google Wallet site, go to Transactions in the upper left, and select View more transactions.
The Google Wallet on Wear OS update is rolling out now, and has been in the works since January. At that time, a changelog for version 26.01 of Google Play services said, “You can now view transactions from other devices and online purchases that use virtual card numbers.”
Making the most of Google Wallet and Wear OS
This update joins another recent step in making the Google Wallet/Wear OS experience much smoother.
In March, Google rolled out Express Pay to let those with Pixel Watch 2 and up tap and pay at stores and on transit without having to wake their watches or open Google Wallet first. So far, those with Wear OS on other devices can use Express Pay only on transit, not in stores. There’s no word yet on when the full features may come to other devices.
