Google opens Pixel Care Plus enrollment for the Pixel 10 and 9, but time is short

What you need to know

  • Google announces that it’s running an open enrollment period for its Pixel Care Plus program for customers with a Pixel 9 or 10 device.
  • Users who skipped out on this plan before can get it now; however, users have from July 14 to August 2 before this “limited-time” chance is gone.
  • Pixel Care Plus gives customers $0 screen and battery repairs, unlimited accidental damage protection, and more.

Like everything in tech, device makers often provide protection plans that consumers can pay for. Google’s version is typically offered within a narrow window, but it’s now available to everyone who skipped it at checkout.

Open enrollment arrives for Pixel Care Plus this week. Google announced the open period in a Keyword post. The company states that from July 14 to August 2, consumers who purchased a Pixel 9 series (including Pixel 9a) or Pixel 10 series phone (including Pixel 10a) qualify for a “limited-time opportunity.” Consumers with one of these models can add Pixel Care Plus protection to cover any damage.

Google states consumers enrolling in Pixel Care Plus through this open period will be awarded “$0 screen and battery repairs, unlimited accidental damage protection, and optional loss and theft coverage.” However, while this is open to quite a decent cast of phones, Google says that not everyone qualifies.

It’s great if you have a Pixel 9 or 10 series phone, but Google needs to ensure that you’re a U.S. customer and that your device “is in good working condition.” In layman’s terms, your Pixel 9 or 10 needs to be “fully functioning and free from cracks, mechanical defects or liquid damage.” If your device checks out, you’re good to go.

Google directs users to the My Pixel app or its online store to add Pixel Care Plus protection.

Pixel Care Plus was first announced last summer, shortly after the Pixel 10 series launched. The plan replaced Google’s old Preferred Care and Fi Device Protection for U.S. customers. With Pixel Care Plus, consumers receive $0 screen/battery repairs and post-warranty malfunction claims, priority support, and a few more goodies. As previously stated, customers usually have a limited window to grab a protection plan for their new device.

This window of opportunity typically lasts 60 days from the phone’s purchase. Google made sure to highlight last summer that Care Plus customers were eligible for free “upgraded shipping” during repairs. Priority Support is another perk. Customers can speak to Google’s experts about any issues. Preferred Care and Fi Device Protection in the U.S. were migrated from those older plans to Google’s updated offerings.

Android Central’s Take

This a mini-event that’s pretty good to capture. To break things down, Google offers monthly coverage for a Pixel 10 Pro XL at $13, $239 for two-year protection. Having protection for a device you use every day for calls, scrolling, gaming, what-have-you, isn’t a bad idea. But not everyone splurges on that sort of thing amidst the assortment of other bills we have to pay. But, hey, here’s a chance if you’ve ever felt like you should’ve gotten it at checkout.
