Google Wallet could finally solve online age verification

If you’re not using Google Wallet, you’re really missing out. While it started as an app to hold your digital debit and credit cards, it has evolved to become an absolute beast, offering impressive versatility with an assortment of tools and features. Of course, it’s become this great because of Google’s frequent updates, adding little things here and there.

Another small yet important detail

While you can easily whip out your ID or passport at a physical location to show proof of age, that becomes a little trickier if you’re trying to do the same thing online. If you’re unaware, there are websites that sometimes require age verification in order to access the site.

You’ve probably experienced agreements for apps that require age consent, but think of this as taking things further by needing to actually prove it. Because of this, there needs to be a streamlined solution, which is where Google’s latest Wallet feature could come in handy.

The folks at Android Authority did a little digging and found that there’s a new “Proof of Age” section in development. In its current form, the only thing that’s known is that it will allow you to prove your age without sharing any personal information. Sadly, that’s where the experience ends as of now.

Of course, there is the possibility that this could be used in real-world scenarios, but since this is all the information that was available in the code of version 26.27.941270914 of Google Wallet, we’ll just have to wait and see what Google has in mind. In addition to that finding, the outlet shares that Google is also testing a notification screen that will clearly show any imported elements from Gmail.

This feature makes it super-easy to import important tickets, passes, and other elements into Google Wallet. However, it can make it harder to manage if you have a lot of things that are automatically being sorted. This new element could improve that, providing a detailed list of any imports taking place over the month.

What will Google Wallet do next?

Google Wallet is an impressive piece of software that can really save you a ton of hassle by keeping all your cards, tickets, passes, IDs, passports, and so much more all together. Of course, you still want to keep your physical cards with you just in case the digital versions just don’t work. But for the most part, we can easily recommend the app because it costs you nothing and does so much.
