Samsung finally explains the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s mysterious red screen problem

When you buy a $1,000+ flagship phone, you expect it to work without any issues. Now, the reality is that’s not always the case, especially with so many different hardware components and software pieces in place. And while some minor issues can be overlooked, a major problem with the screen is just one of those things that can’t happen.

That’s exactly what’s going on with Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra, with multiple users reporting across the internet about a red hue that’s taken over the screen. The good news is that Samsung has concluded its investigation into the issue, finding that it’s just a software problem.

A fix is coming

South Korea’s News1 shared details in its report, with Samsung stating that this issue comes from a “software optimization” and isn’t hardware-related (via Android Authority). Although Samsung hasn’t gone in-depth on the cause, some online have speculated that it might have to do with the new Privacy Display that debuted this year.

The good news is that Samsung will offer an update that will fix the problem, which will go out to affected users sometime in the near future. Through machine translation, the article explains that you can take it to a local Samsung service center to get the software fix.

However, we’d recommend contacting Samsung support before you make any moves to ensure you can get the software fix at a location near you.

Samsung’s foldables are just around the corner

While the Galaxy S26 series is great, most are already looking at what’s ahead for the brand. In just a week, Samsung will announce new foldable products at its Galaxy Unpacked event taking place in London on July 22.

While there aren’t many official details yet, many are speculating that Samsung will release a new wider foldable. Although tall tablet-style foldables have been the norm for many years, this wider style is set to take over starting this year.

Although we have seen examples of this style in the past with Google and Huawei, it’s not something that has reached the mainstream. Samsung could be the first to do it. If not them, Apple is also reportedly coming out with its first foldable phone this year that will have a similar form factor.

Some people are skeptical about the wider look and feel, but we’ll have to just wait and see how it all pans out. We’ve seen companies try new things before, and it doesn’t take long for them to drop a product that isn’t working.
