Apple Music price goes up as Apple starts a new wave of price hikes

Apple has increased the subscription price of Apple Music in the U.S., but that’s not where the price hikes end.

An Apple Music Individual plan now costs $11.99 per month, up from $10.99. Student plans now cost $6.99, up from $5.99. And if you want to get a Family plan, that’ll be $19.99, up from $16.99.

Europeans get the exact same numbers, only in euros: Individual plans are now €11.99, Student plans are €6.99, and a Family plan is €19.99. In the UK, the Individual plan now costs £11.99, while the Family plan is £19.99.

New subscribers will have to pay the new prices right away; existing subscribers will get a notification soon and will be billed the new prices at their next billing cycle.

In a statement to Music Business Worldwide, Apple said the price hikes are a result of “rising licensing costs.”

Apple One plans have also gotten pricier. While the basic plan still has the same price, the Family plan now costs $27.95 (up from $25.95), while the Premier plan costs $39.95 (up from $37.95).

There’s more bad news for consumers, although it’s scattered throughout different markets. As MacRumors noticed, iPhone prices have gone up roughly 8-10 percent in Japan, and iCloud+ prices have gone up quite a bit (from 11 to 55 percent) in 8 countries: Nigeria, Turkey, Vietnam, Japan, Egypt, New Zealand, the Philippines, and Indonesia.

The news comes about a month after Apple increased the prices of numerous products in its lineup, mostly due to the memory chip supply crunch.
