If Bezos invests, he would be the latest American tech billionaire to buy into European football. The overlap between tech wealth and sports ownership has accelerated in the past two years, driven by rising media rights values and the Premier League’s global audience. Amazon already holds Premier League TV rights in the UK, broadcasting a package of live matches through Prime Video. Owning a stake in one of the league’s biggest clubs while streaming its games would raise questions about conflicts of interest that neither Amazon nor the Premier League has publicly addressed.
Bezos has never owned a sports team despite multiple reported attempts. He explored bids for the NFL’s Washington Commanders in 2023 and the Seattle Seahawks this year, but did not proceed with either.
