The middle of the week features another AI model announcement from Google, aiming to advance its music generation capabilities.

This afternoon (July 29), Google’s press release highlights its newest AI music generation model, Lyria 3.5. According to the company, this should “deliver higher-quality song generation.” A subsequent blog post continued, stating that Lyria 3.5 advances the model’s “musicality, lyrics, and vocal quality.” Regarding the AI’s musicality, Google states users can create more complex sounds that feel more “natural.”

Prompt adherence and structural awareness are two key areas Google says it focused on for Lyria 3.5. Of course, the former should help keep the AI on topic and avoid lyrics that have nothing to do with your prompt. Lastly, Lyria 3.5’s vocals are said to deliver “more expression,” alongside updates to its AI’s pronunciation.

All of this is wrapped in Lyria 3.5’s updated creative control system. Google states users can control the song’s tempo and duration a little more easily than before. Users will find options to alter their AI-generated song’s vocals, drums, and bass. Moreover, the length of a track can now range from 30 seconds to three minutes.

In February, Google got off to a fast start with the launch of Lyria 3. Its highlights included generating songs up to 30 seconds long based on text prompts or photos. Lyrics, style control, and “more realistic audio” were also detailed in its debut. Some aspects of AI music generation continue with Lyria 3.5. Users should still be able to describe the feeling or vibe of the song they want, such as saying “a goofy R&B jam about a lonely sock.”

Shortly after Lyria 3’s launch in February, Google said it was preparing to roll it out for Dream Track in YouTube Shorts. Similarly, a few months later, Google Vids welcomed Lyria 3 and Veo 3.1 models. Lyria’s involvement was particularly useful for users creating videos and looking for a short 30-second to three-minute-long beat or soundtrack.
